The Cassa per il Mezzogiorno, the World Bank and the Model for Italian Economic Development
Volume a cura di Amedeo Lepore
"The Cassa per il Mezzogiorno, the World Bank and the Model for Italian Economic Development" è il titolo del nuovo volume edito da Cambridge Scholars Publishing a cura di Amedeo Lepore
This research, carried out in original documents by the World Bank, which were intended exclusively for internal use and were made available to scholars only a few years ago, tackles the theme of the extraordinary intervention in Southern Italy from an international perspective. The book provides an updated view of the issues concerning the regions of Southern Italy, as well as the solutions proposed for the “Southern Question” during the years of the post-war reconstruction of Italy, creating the only period of convergence – considering the whole of the history of united Italy – between Southern and Northern Italy and between the entire country and the most advanced Western economies during the golden age. The volume enhances our understanding of such a decisive development phase, especially within the framework of both Italian and international economic history, following the peacetime rebuilding of Italy and before the crisis of the 1970s, while providing very useful elements in order to analyse the current events of both the Mezzogiorno and all of Italy.
Amedeo Lepore is Full Professor of Economic History at the Department of Economics of the University of Campania Luigi Vanvitelli, Italy, where he teaches economic history, business and financial history, and the evolution of capitalism, technologies and finance. He also teaches economic and business history at the Department of Business and Management of Luiss Guido Carli University in Rome. He sits on the Board of Directors of the SVIMEZ (Associazione per lo sviluppo dell'industria nel Mezzogiorno) and is a founder and board member of the Merita Meridione-Italia Foundation. He is a member of the Accademia Pontaniana, the most ancient Italian academy, in the class of Moral Sciences. He has published more than 190 volumes and essays on the economic history of Europe and Italy, the history of Euro-Atlantic trade, economic history's tools and methods, business, accounting and marketing history, and the economic evolution of Southern Italy. His current research interests concern the globalization process, digital capitalism and the fourth industrial revolution, the dynamics of circular bioeconomy, the evolution of the Italian economic dualism and development strategies.
